Error Message When Starting a Backup Job (229256)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
This article was previously published under Q229256 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to start a backup job using the Microsoft Backup tool, you may receive the following error message:
This device is not present, not working properly, or does not have all
the drivers installed.
CAUSE
This problem can occur after you upgrade to Windows 98 Second Edition and then start a backup job. After you upgrade, your backup device may
be incorrectly listed twice in the "Where to back up" box in the
Backup tool, and only one of these two devices actually works. If you click the device that does not work and continue with your backup job, the error message listed earlier in this article may be generated.
RESOLUTION
To work around this problem, start the backup job again and click the working device in the Where to back up box. Note that after you complete your backup job, only one backup device appears in the "Where to back up" box.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
