The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition

This article was previously published under Q229122

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to view the Spacefighter animation in NewTek LightWave 3D version 5.6, the program may stop responding (hang) if you are using any of the following video adapters:
  • Intel I740
  • Diamond Viper 550 (RIVA TNT chip set)

CAUSE

This behavior may be caused by an issue with DirectX 6.1 and the way LightWave 3D interacts with certain video adapters and drivers.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, disable DirectDraw acceleration using the DirectX Diagnostic tool (Dxdiag):
  1. Click Start, click Run, type dxdiag, and then click OK.
  2. Click the Display tab.
  3. Click Disable next to DirectDraw: Acceleration Enabled.
  4. Click Exit.
NOTE: Disabling DirectDraw and Direct3D acceleration will slow overall performance. After you quit LightWave 3D, enable these options again.
