After you run Microsoft Office 2000 Setup, the option to set a shortcut key may be unavailable.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, you can use the Shortcut Wizard to create a shortcut to any of the Office 2000 programs, and then assign a hot key to the shortcut. To use this method, perform the following steps:
- Run Windows Explorer. On the File menu, point to New, and then click Shortcut.
NOTE: You have to highlight the desktop or another default drive location to instruct your computer where to place the shortcut. - Type the location of the program. For Microsoft Office programs, the default location is: \Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office. Then type the name of the program to which you want the shortcut. For example, \Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe. Or, use the Browse button to manually locate the program, select the name of the program, and then click Open.
- Click Next, click Finish to select the default name of the program, or type a name that you want, and then click Finish.
- After you create the shortcut, right-click the shortcut, and then click Properties. In the Shortcut key box, type the keyboard commands you want to use, and then click OK.
NOTE: Assign a unique hot key to each shortcut.
Programs Not in the Default Location:
If your programs are not in the default location, you can search for them, and then create a shortcut by performing the following steps:
- Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
- In the Named box, type the program name that you want, and then click Find Now.
NOTE: In Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), click Start, point to Search, and then click For Files or Folders. In the Search for files or folders named: box, type the program name that you want, and then click Search Now. - After you locate the program you want, right-click the program name, and then click Create Shortcut.
- After you create the shortcut, right-click the shortcut, and then click Properties. In the Shortcut key box, type the keyboard commands you want to use, and then click OK.
NOTE: Assign a unique hot key to each shortcut.
