Works Suite 99 Err Msg: Setup Could Not Read From the File <cd-rom>:\Msword\Wrd97inv.dll (229115)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install Microsoft Word 97 from the Microsoft Works Suite 99 CD-ROM, you may receive the following error message
Setup could not read from the file cd-rom:\msword\wrd97inv.dll.
where cd-rom is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if Norton Anti-Virus is running on your computer. Certain versions of Norton Anti-Virus can interfere with the Works Suite 99 installation program.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Disable Norton Anti-Virus. For information about how to do this, see your printed documentation or online Help file for the program.
  2. Run Works Suite 99 Setup to install Microsoft Word 97.
  3. Enable Norton Anti-Virus. For information about how to do this, see your printed documentation or online Help file for the program.
If the issue continues to occur, remove Norton Anti-Virus, install Microsoft Word 97, and then reinstall Norton Anti-Virus. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Norton Anti-Virus, and then click Add/Remove. Follow the instructions on the screen to remove Norton Anti-Virus.
  4. Run Works Suite 99 Setup to install Microsoft Word 97.
  5. Reinstall Norton Anti-Virus.
