SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to start one of the programs listed at the beginning of this article, you may receive the following error message:
The filename file is linked to missing export MFC42.DLL:6453

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you install the "Bonus" software that is bundled with certain Hewlett-Packard printers.

The Hewlett-Packard "Bonus" software overwrites the Mfc42.dll file with an older version of the file. The programs listed at the beginning of this article require the newer version of this file to run.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods.

Reinstall the Program

Reinstall the program you are unable to start. The installation process updates the Mfc42.dll file to the required (newer) version.

Download the Mfc42.exe File

Click the Errors Referring to MFC42.DLL Occur After Installing Bonus Software link on the following Hewlett-Packard Web site for instructions about how to download the Mfc42.exe file.
