XIMS: Chat Service Ends Connection after LISTX Command is Sent (228860)

SYMPTOMS

When you send a LISTX command to a Microsoft Exchange Chat Service computer, the server may unexpectedly end the connection to the client. When this occurs, a list of chat rooms and their topics may be displayed, but it is a very incomplete list.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the results of the LISTX command must be truncated and the output buffer overflows while the partial listing is being sent to the client.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Microsoft Exchange Server version 5.5 service pack that contains this hotfix.
