SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade your computer to Windows 2000, and you try to print a test page from your Kyocera FS-3700 PCL or FS-7000 printer, you may receive the following error message:
The requested resource is in use

CAUSE

This problem can occur if Windows 2000 does not properly initialize the printer.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, turn the printer off, and then turn the printer on.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

By turning the printer off and then back on, the printer is made to perform an internal reset. This internal reset process flushes any old data from the printer buffer, executes an internal diagnostic test, establishes a communications link with the computer printer port, and then places the printer in an "On Line" or "Ready" status.
