When you attempt to join a domain on a Windows-based computer, you may receive one of the following error messages:
The domain name "Domain" is either invalid or doesn't exist.
The following error occurred validating the name "Domain". The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if there is no network protocol installed on the computer.
RESOLUTION
Install a network protocol on the computer:
- Right-click My Network Places on the desktop, and then click Properties.
- Right-click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties.
- On the General tab, click Install.
- Click Protocol, and then click Add.
- Click the appropriate protocol, and then click OK.
