Phone books that you create with Phone Book Administrator (an integral part of Microsoft Connection Point Services) cannot be renamed after you have created them. You can use Phone Book Administrator (PBA) to create, copy, delete, and edit phone books.
CAUSE
PBA is part of Connection Point Services (CPS). You use it to create phone books for distribution to users through centralized Phone Book servers. Phone Book Server (PBS) is another element of CPS; it is supported on Microsoft Internet Information Server 4.0 or Internet Information Services 5.0 (Microsoft Windows 2000 only).
You can use PBA to create phone books that contain multiple points of presence (POP). A POP is a dial-up connection that a user can select to initiate a dial-up action to a service (an ISP, corporate RAS server, and so on). Phone books usually consist of multiple POPs to support various users, many of whom are mobile users who require access from various locations. You can also use PBA to create new phone books and copy the contents of existing phone books.
For example, an ISP may have access points located throughout the United States. The ISP can use PBA to create phone books for each state, and then create another that contains all the POPs contained in each state phone book. Or, the ISP can create one large phone book and identify each POP by region. PBA provides flexibility in this area. This same scenario can be applied to a corporate environment.
Phone books and phone book updates are published to Phone Book servers. When you use Connection Manager Administration Kit (CMAK)
to configure profiles for your users, the phone book names must remain stable so that your users can download updates when they log on.
To prevent at least one problem from occurring, renaming phone books is not permitted in PBA.
STATUS
