SYMPTOMS

After you install a multiple port serial adapter on a computer running Windows 2000, programs may be inactive when you initially restart the computer. Even if you click a program window to make it active, the program becomes inactive again.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because additional serial ports are being added to the systems registry. When this process completes, programs are available again.

NOTE: This behavior only occurs the first time you restart the Windows 2000-based computer after you add the adapter.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000.
