SYMPTOMS

In Windows NT, you may receive the following error message:
STOP 0x0000000A (0xnnnnnnnn, 0x00000008, 0x00000000, 0x801db9ed)
where nnnnnnnn is a random series of numbers.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the Fcascsi.sys file is running on your computer.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Create an emergency repair disk. Click Start, click Run, type rdisk /s in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Use the Regedt32.exe program to edit the following registry key

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CURRENT_CONTROL_SET/SERVICES/FCA_SCSI/PARAMETERS/DEVICE<n>

    where <n> is number from 0 to 4.

    Edit the registry key to contain the following values:

  3. Quit Regedt32.exe, and then restart your computer.
