InstallShield Visual Basic Wizard Does Not Create Setup Project (227947)

SYMPTOMS

When logged in as a Power User or User, you may not be able to create a setup project using the InstallShield Visual Basic (VB) Project Wizard if InstallShield was set up on the computer under a different account. The following error message may appear while using the wizard:
Visual Basic Project Wizard:

The key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\InstallShield\InstallShield Professional\5.1\VBWiz cannot be found in the Registry. InstallShield may not be properly installed. The Wizard will abort.
NOTE: The key name in the error message may vary slightly because this problem occurs with both version 5.1 and version 5.5 of InstallShield.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem with InstallShield 5.1 and 5.5 on Microsoft Windows 2000.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Log on to a Windows 2000 computer as the Administrator.
  2. Set up InstallShield on the computer and accept the default settings.
  3. Log off the computer.
  4. Log back on to the computer as a Power User.
  5. Run InstallShield and launch the wizard by double-clicking the VB Project Wizard icon.
  6. From the wizard's welcome dialog, browse to a Visual Basic project (.vbp file), select the file name, and click Open.
  7. Click Next in the VB Wizard dialog. The error noted above will be raised.
