SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade your Microsoft Windows 98-based or Microsoft Windows NT 4.0-based computer to Windows 2000, saved HyperTerminal sessions may be missing.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur for one of the following reasons:
  • If you have upgraded from Windows 98 then this issue can occur because saved HyperTerminal session files are not moved to the new HyperTerminal folder during Windows 2000 Setup.
  • If you have upgraded from Windows NT 4 then this issue can occur because saved HyperTerminal session files have been deleted.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the appropiate method:

Upgraded from Windows 98

If you have upgraded from Windows 98, copy the files in the Program Files\Accessories\Hyperterminal folder to the %systemdrive%\Program Files\Windows NT folder.

Upgraded from Windows NT 4.0

If you have upgraded from Windows NT 4.0, a user's saved HyperTerminal session files are deleted during that user's initial logon. If a user has not logged on it may be possible to copy or move their saved sessions from their %userprofile%\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\Communications\Hyperterminal folder before they are deleted.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Saved HyperTerminal session files use a .ht file extension.
