NTBackup Stops During Advanced Backup of Remote Storage Data on Single-Drive Tape Unit (227696)

This article was previously published under Q227696

SUMMARY

When you attempt to back up a file managed by Remote Storage by using the NTBackup utility, NTBackup may stop responding. This happens when you enable Backup Data that is in Remote Storage from the Advanced Backup options in NTBackup, with a single-drive tape unit in use.

MORE INFORMATION

A managed file requires that the tape be loaded into the drive, but NTBackup has a hold on the drive and a tape is already loaded. This leaves the Remote Storage media waiting to be mounted and NTBackup waiting until it gets its fulfillment from Hierarchical Storage Management. To use the Backup Data that is in Remote Storage advanced option, you must use a tape unit that has more than one drive.
