SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade from Microsoft Windows NT 3.51 to Windows 2000, the shortcuts that are created in place of the Windows NT 3.51 Program Manager group items may not display icons correctly. The affected icons are located in the Microsoft Office and Startup folders on the Start menu. However, the text for each shortcut appears correctly and the shortcut does start the program correctly.

RESOLUTION

You can generate new shortcuts by right-clicking the associated file (for example, Excel.exe), and then clicking Create Shortcut. You can then move the new shortcut to the appropriate folder (for example, C:\Documents and Settings\profilename\Start Menu\Programs\Microsoft Office).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
