SYMPTOMS

When you try to search for an excluded scope in more than one catalog on the Microsoft Index Server, you do not get any search results for that scope.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Index Server.

MORE INFORMATION

Excluded scopes are for backward compatibility and file allocation table (FAT) support. The NTFS file system compressed file attribute is what you must use to get non-indexed behavior.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

Create two catalogs like the following:

Catalog1
D:\Test (included)
D:\Test\Test2 (excluded)

Catalog2
D:\Test (included)

Use the Search feature to query for the scope D:\Test\Test2. No results are returned, even though there is a catalog on the system that indexes this scope (Catalog2).
