When you are installing a new monitor that is not recognized by Windows 2000, the proper monitor type cannot be selected because the monitor type is missing in the Add/Remove Hardware wizard.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because monitors are Plug and Play devices that must be enumerated by a video adapter.
RESOLUTIONNOTE: You should obtain a driver from the monitor's manufacturer to use the following steps.
To list the proper monitor in the device menu:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Display, and then click the Settings tab.
- Click Advanced, and then click the Monitor tab.
- Click Properties, and then click the Driver tab.
- Click Update Driver, and then click Next.
- Click Display a list of the known drivers, and then click Next.
- If you have a manufacturer-supplied driver disk, click Have Disk, and then provide the location of the drivers. Otherwise, click Show all hardware of this device class.
- Click the appropriate items manufacturer and model, and then click Next.
- If you receive an Update Driver Warning dialog box, click Yes if you still want to use the driver you selected.
- Click Next to continue. Supply the Windows 2000 CD-ROM if needed.
- Click Finish to quit the Wizard.
- Close the Monitor Properties dialog box, and then click OK to close the Advanced Display Properties dialog box.
- Click OK to close Display properties.
- Close Control Panel.
- Reboot if you are prompted to do so.
