SYMPTOMS

During the installation of Windows 2000, you may receive the following error message:
The drive you specified (X:) is not suitable for holding temporary Setup files.

CAUSE

Windows 2000 displays this error message if you specify a drive letter that uses software fault tolerance, such as a stripe set or mirror.

RESOLUTION

Specify a local drive that is not part of a software fault tolerance set.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
