Default Save Location Is Not in the My Documents Folder (227290)

When you save a file in a program that uses common dialog boxes, the default location to save the file may not be the My Documents folder.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if you open the program using an MS-DOS prompt from a folder that contains files registered to that program.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, click Start, click Run, type notepad in the Open box, and then click OK.

Programs that use common dialogs check in the current folder, where you opened the program, to see if there are files that have a registered extension for that program. If it finds a file with a registered extension, then it opens that folder, otherwise it opens the My Documents folder.
For example, if you open Microsoft Notepad from the root folder of your drive using an MS-DOS prompt, the save dialog box uses the root folder as the default location when you save a file. This occurs because there are .txt files located in the root folder of your drive.
