Unable to Map Network Drive Using the Servers IP Address (227283)

When you attempt to map a drive using a computer running Windows 2000, you may receive the following error message:
System error 53 has occurred.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if you are trying to map a drive using an IP address for a server running any of the following networking software:
- IBM OS/2 1.3
- Lan Manager 2.2
- Microsoft Net Server 1.11
- Hewlett-Packard Unix Lan Manager X
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use the NetBios name of the server to map the drive. To do this, follow these steps:
- Double-click My Computer, and then click Map Network Drive on the Tools menu.
- In the Drive box, click the drive letter you want to use.
- In the Folder box, type \\server\share, where server is the NetBios name of the server to which you want to connect, and share is the name of a shared folder on that server.
- Click Finish.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000.
