To uninstall Internet Explorer 4.01 SP2 from Windows 98:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  2. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 SP2, and then click Add/Remove.
  3. Click Restore the previous Windows configuration, and then click OK.
  4. When you are prompted "Click OK to remove Internet Explorer 4.0 and shared components," click OK.
  5. When you are prompted "Are you sure you want to remove Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0?", click OK.
  6. Click OK to restart the computer.
By default, Windows 98 installs Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 1 (SP1), which includes the Windows Desktop Update component. This version cannot be uninstalled using the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel.
