SYMPTOMS

When you perform a full installation of Internet Explorer 4.x on a Windows NT 4.0-based computer that is running Service Pack 4, you may receive the following message:
Confirm File Replace

Source: C:\WINNT\System32\temporary file name.
Target: C:\WINNT\System32\MSVBVM50.dll.

The target file exists and is newer than the source.

Overwrite the newer file?

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 installs version 05.02.8244 of the Msvbm50.dll file, and Internet Explorer 4.x Setup tries to install an older version of this file.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, when you are prompted to overwrite the existing file, click No.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
