When you configure Microsoft Outlook Express to send authentication credentials to an SMTP server using Secure Password Authentication (SPA), Outlook Express prompts you for a plain text user name and password and you cannot connect to the SMTP server.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, install Internet Explorer 4.01 SP2 from the following Web site:

This problem was corrected in Outlook Express version 4.01 SP2 and 5.0 for Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT 4.0.
