Err Msg: Unable to Add a Virtual Directory Because of an... (226945)

When you try to add a Virtual Directory from Advanced Options in Personal Web Manager, you may receive the following error message:
Personal Web Manager
Unable to add the virtual directory because of an error in the server.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if you are running Internet Explorer 4.x, and have removed one or more of the following Java Distribution Units from the Downloaded Program Files folder:
- DirectAnimation Java Classes
- Internet Explorer Classes for Java
- Microsoft XML Parser for Java
- Win32 Classes
Removing any of these items from the Downloaded Program Files folder may remove certain entries in the Windows Registry that are needed by Personal Web Server.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, remove and reinstall Personal Web Server: WARNING: Removing this program also removes all user-defined Transaction Server packages and IIS/PWS configuration backups. Back up any data that you have created using this program before performing the following procedure.
- Click Start, point to Settings, click
Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- If you are running Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows
98, click Microsoft Personal Web Server on the list of installed programs. If you are running Microsoft Windows NT, click Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack on the list of installed programs. Click
Add/Remove.
- Click Next, and then click Remove All.
- Click Yes, and then click OK if you receive the following error message:
pws-error
CreateIISPackage or DeleteIISPackage. 0x80040154
Class not registered.
- Click Finish, restart your computer, and then reinstall Personal Web Server.
