PPT2000: Sound Files Don't Play When Clicked in Web Page (226743)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2000

This article was previously published under Q226743

SYMPTOMS

If you click a sound icon or hyperlink to a sound file in a Web page created by Microsoft PowerPoint, the sound may not play or may only play the first time that it is clicked.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when there is a sound assigned to the Start Navigation event in Windows Explorer.

NOTE: This sound is part of the Windows Sounds Properties.

When a hyperlink is clicked, the Start Navigation sound is played. Windows cannot start the sound in your presentation while the Start Navigation sound is playing, because Windows can only play one sound on the specified sound device at a time.

RESOLUTION

Turn off the Start Navigation sound in Windows Sounds Properties.
  1. On the Start menu, point to Settings and click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Sounds icon.
  3. In the Sounds Properties window, scroll down to and click Start Navigation in the Events list.
  4. Click the drop-down menu for the Name list. Click on (None).
  5. Click OK to apply your changes.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
