PPT2000: Symbol Characters Are Displayed in the Wrong Font (226724)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft PowerPoint, when you use the Symbol dialog box to select a font and insert characters into your presentation, the characters may not be displayed in your presentation in the font that you selected.

For example, when you try to insert Monotype Corsiva characters, the default font (usually Times New Roman) may be used to display the symbol characters in your presentation instead of the Monotype Corsiva font that you selected.

When you print the presentation, it is printed as displayed on the screen, using the default font.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you use a font that is not listed in the Font list in the Symbol dialog box.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use only those fonts that are listed in the Font list box in the Symbol dialog box. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the Insert menu, point to Symbol.
  2. In the Symbol dialog box, select one of the fonts listed in the Font box.
  3. Click any character, and then click Insert.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
