PPT2000: Asked to Save Presentation After Playing Media Clip Object (226595)

When you play a media clip object, such as a movie or sound file, you may be prompted to save your presentation, even though you made no changes to the presentation. If you try to close the presentation, you receive the following warning:
Do you want to save changes made to PresentationName.ppt?
Where PresentationName.ppt is the name of the presentation that you are trying to save.
CAUSE
When you play a media clip object, while editing the slide or during a slide show, the media clip application (Windows Media Player) must create a new image of the media clip that it just played. This changes the slide, forcing PowerPoint to prompt you to save the presentation even if no changes can be seen.
WORKAROUND
Play the media clip through PowerPoint. To do this, follow these steps:
- From the Insert menu, point to Movies and Sounds, and click From File
- Navigate to where the media clip you want to use is located and select it.
- Click OK
Movies and sounds that play through Windows Media Player will play with this method. Both Windows Media Player and PowerPoint use MCI devices to interact with media clips. If an MCI device does not play for a specific file type, neither Media Player or PowerPoint will be able to play any files of that type.
