SS: MMC Quits within NLSnapIN.dll (226344)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Site Server 3.0
This article was previously published under Q226344 SYMPTOMS
The Microsoft Site Server Search Microsoft Management Console (MMC) Snap-in can cause a Dr. Watson error.
This will happen if you save a Microsoft Site Server Search catalog definition to the local drive, and then you add a remote server to the MMC Administration tool for search. Then if you try to create a new catalog on the remote computer using the saved definition. When you select the file, it prompts you to create a UNC connection from the remote computer to load the data. If you answer "No" it will cause a Dr. Watson "Application Error" and then MMC exits.
CAUSESteps to Reproduce the Problem- Install an NT4.0 SP4 server with NTOP and Site Server 3.0 SP1
- Go in MMC to search Snap-in.
- Find a catalog under catalog build server, right-click on the catalog, choose task, and save catalog definition.
- Save the file in the default location.
- Right-click on the root search Snap-in folder, select add host and point to a remote search server. This adds the remote server to the local MMC.
- Expand the remote server.
- Right-click on the catalog build server and choose New, catalog definition with the wizard.
- Browse to the file on the local computer (should be the default folder brought up).
- You will be prompted to create a UNC connection to load the file. 11. Click No.
- The computer should stop.
