NetBIOS Is Not Enabled Over TCP/IP After Upgrade (226232)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
This article was previously published under Q226232 SYMPTOMS
When you upgrade a Microsoft Windows 95-based or Microsoft Windows 98-based computer configured with a static IP address to Windows 2000, the TCP/IP settings may change. Specifically, if the "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP" option (which is the default setting that cannot be changed in Windows 95/98) is enabled in TCP/IP properties, it is changed to the "Use NetBIOS Setting from the DHCP Server" option.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATION
Because the Dynamic Host Control Protocol (DHCP) configuration for client computers is a more common implementation than using static addresses for all clients, this option is set by default.
