FIX: SQLServerAgent May Shut Down If SQL Server Is Started from the Console (226109)

SYMPTOMS
If you run SQL Server from the console, the SQL Server Agent may shut itself down. This problem can occur when trying to connect by means of SQL Server Enterprise Manager, but may also occur when performing certain tasks when configuring replication.
CAUSE
It can appear to the SQL Server Agent that SQL Server has stopped, when in fact the server is still running.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, start SQL Server as a service.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server 7.0. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 2 for Microsoft SQL Server 7.0.
