This article describes how to determine whether Internet Printer Protocol (IPP) is enabled for the Hewlett-Packard (HP) Internet Printer Connect software.

To determine whether IPP is enabled for your HP JetDirect print server, use one of the following methods:
  • Try browsing to the HP JetDirect print server. From a browser, type the HP JetDirect print server's address (URL). For example, type http://192.0.0.192, substituting the IP address assigned to the specific printer for "192.0.0.192." After the print server's embedded Web page is loaded, look at the lower-left part of the page for a link to the Internet Printing Install Wizard. If this link is present, IPP is enabled for the JetDirect print server. If the link is not present, the print server does not support IPP.
  • Print a self-test page from the HP JetDirect unit or from the printer. If the version number listed on the self-test page is revision G.07.15, H.07.15, or later, the IPP is enabled for the HP JetDirect print server.
If your configuration does not support IPP, you can obtain this functionality by upgrading your JetDirect firmware to a newer revision that supports IPP, or by upgrading to Windows 2000. Windows 2000 includes Internet printing capability when the Microsoft Internet Information Server component is installed.
