The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

This article was previously published under Q225604

SYMPTOMS

When you use less than 65 thousand colors with a Number Nine Imagine 128 video adapter with 4 megabytes (MB) of random access memory (RAM) or an ATI Mach64 video adapter with 4 MB or 1 MB, the background .gif file may be displayed in purple.

CAUSE

This issue can occur because when you are using 256 colors the display is paletized. This causes the colors to be mapped to the nearest solid color for that color depth, which in this case is purple.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, configure the color depth to use True color.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000.
