Floppy Drive Displayed When No Floppy Drive Is Installed (225515)

SYMPTOMS

When you install Windows 95 or Windows 98 on a computer that does not have a floppy disk drive, the icon for the floppy drive may still be visible in My Computer. Also, when Setup restarts your computer for the final time, Setup may appear to stop responding (hang).

Another issue that occurs is when a program tries to access a non existent floppy disk drive, the system freezes up for up to a minute. This commonly happens when searching for new device drivers (Note that this freeze only happens if no other removable disk drives on the system).

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, you can safely ignore it.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
