This article was previously published under Q225484 SYMPTOMS
During SQL Server 7.0 Setup in BackOffice Small Business Server (SBS), you are prompted to choose the character set that SQL Server uses for character-based data types. After you choose a character set, SQL Server does not start when it is initialized.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when you choose a character set that is not installed on the server.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, rebuild the master database:
- Put SBS 4.5 CD-ROM 2 into the CD-ROM drive.
- In the SQL Server 7.0 installation folder (C:\Mssql7\Binn), run Rebuildm.exe.
- When the Rebuild Master dialog box appears, click Browse, and then click the x:\Sql70\X86\Data folder, where x is the CD-ROM drive.
- Click Settings to set the correct settings, and then click OK.
- Click Rebuild.
