This article was previously published under Q224889 SYMPTOMS
When you drag a Contact from one message store folder to another message store, the duplicate detection feature does not work.
RESOLUTION
To prevent contacts with identical e-mail addresses from being created, create a temporary Contacts folder to move the contacts into before moving them to your destination Contacts folder. To do this, follow these steps:
- Create a folder containing contact items in the same store that you want to move the contacts to. For example, if you want to move contacts from another store into your default Contacts folder, create a folder containing contact items and name it Contacts2.
- Drag the contacts into the Contacts2 folder.
- Drag the contacts from the Contacts2 folder, to the appropriate Contacts folder.
If two contacts have the same address, you will be asked if you want to replace the contact or not.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. REFERENCES
