OL2000: Quiet Reinstall of Mixed Mode Office 97 SR1 Fails (224883)

SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to run Microsoft Office 97 Setup in Quiet mode, after running a mixed mode installation of Office 2000, you may receive the following errors
Error 689: Setup cannot update an installation interactivately in Quiet mode.
followed by:
Error 723: Setup was unable to read configuration information from the first section of the setup file C:\Program files\Microsoft Office\Office\Setup\Office97Pro.stf.
CAUSE
This error occurs when:
- You use a specific series of custom setup actions with Office 97 SR-1 in Quiet mode.
- You install Office 2000.
- You attempt to return to the previous installation of Office 97.
RESOLUTION
If you reinstall Office 97 SR-1, you must not use the Quiet mode command-line switch.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
