SYMPTOMS

When you open an Outlook item that was created in a different folder and moved to the current folder, you receive the error message:
Some objects contain viruses that can be harmful to your computer. It is important to be certain that this object is from a trustworthy source.

Do you trust this embedded object?
If you click Yes, this is followed by:
This item can no longer be found. It may have been deleted or moved.
NOTE: The first message only appears if your attachment security is set to High.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if you open a shortcut that points to an item in a different folder that is no longer present.

RESOLUTION

To workaround this issue, when you move an Outlook item of one type into a folder of another type, make sure that you copy the whole item as an embedded object into the new folder, and that you do not copy a shortcut to the original item. To do so, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Use the Edit Menu to Move the Item

  1. Click the Outlook folder that contains the item that you want to move, and then click the item that you want to move.

NOTE: Do not double click the item that you want to move, or the item will open.
  2. Click Edit on the Outlook menu bar.
  3. Click Move to Folder.
  4. Click to select the new folder that are moving the item to, and then click OK.
  5. Click Save and Close.

Method 2: Drag the Item

Right-click and drag the item to the folder you want, and then release the right mouse button to place the item in the new folder. When you receive a prompt with a list of actions to perform, select Move Here as new folder type with Attachment, where new folder type is the type of folder into which you are moving the item.

For example, if you move a contact into the Journal folder, select Move Here as Journal Entry with Attachment.
