This article applies only to a Microsoft Access project (.adp).
SYMPTOMS
When you try to start any of the security or replication tools inside a Microsoft Access project connected to a SQL Server 6.5 database, you receive the following error messages:
The Database administrative components failed to load or initialize. Verify that the components are installed and registered locally.
[SQL-DMO]SQL Server <Machine Name> must be upgraded to version 7.0 or later to be administered by this version of SQL-DMO.
These errors do not occur when you connect to a SQL Server 7.0 or Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE) database.
CAUSE
The security and replication dialogs included with Access Client-Server are provided by SQL Server 7.0 or MSDE, and do not function with legacy versions of SQL Server.
RESOLUTION
To administer replication or security for a SQL Server 6.5 database, use tools provided by SQL Server 6.5, such as ISQL_W or SQL Server Enterprise Manager.
