Static IP addresses with built-in (non-PCMCIA) adapters can cause a system crash on Windows CE 2.10 (224498)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows CE 2.1 for the Handheld PC
This article was previously published under Q224498 SYMPTOMSOn Windows CE version 2.1, if a static IP address is assigned to a built-in (non-PCMCIA) network adapter, it may cause a system crash during boot time.
CAUSE
If a network adapter is given a static IP address (rather than one assigned by DHCP), NetBIOS is told of the adapter before the NTE is completely created. This can cause a crash in NetBIOS.
RESOLUTION
To correct this problem, wait for the adapter to be set up before indicating to NetBIOS, as well as adding a check in NetBIOS to handle NULL adapters.
STATUS
This problem has been corrected in Windows CE version 2.11.
