SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to play a full-screen video in Microsoft Encarta Reference DVD-ROM Suite 99, you may receive the following error message:
AN ESSENTIAL COMPONENT FOR FULL SCREEN VIDEO IS MISSING

Your DVD-ROM driver software does not support DirectShow, which Encarta Encyclopedia uses to display videos at full screen size. To correct the problem, contact the manufacturer of your DVD-ROM drive to receive updated DVD-ROM driver software. If your DVD-ROM drive came with your computer, contact the computer manufacturer.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the DVD decoder card device drivers installed on the computer do not support Microsoft DirectShow.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, contact the manufacturer of your DVD decoder card for information about how to obtain updated decoder card drivers that support DirectShow.

NOTE: The manufacturer of your DVD decoder card may not be the same as the manufacturer of your DVD-ROM drive.
