SYMPTOMS

After you uninstall Gateway Services for NetWare (GSNW) or Client Services for NetWare (CSNW), the GSNW or CSNW icon remains in Control Panel, but nothing happens when you double-click it.

CAUSE

The Nwc.cpl file may not be removed when you uninstall GSNW or CSNW. If you attempt to remove the Nwc.cpl manually, the Windows File Protection (WFP) feature restores it.

RESOLUTION

Although the GSNW or CSNW icon remains in Control Panel, you cannot use it if GSNW or CNSW is not installed. The tool becomes operational again if you reinstall GSNW or CSNW.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
