BUG: OLAP Manager: Error Browsing When 'All Caption' Name Matches Level Name (224156)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft SQL Server OLAP Services 7.0
This article was previously published under Q224156
BUG #: 1265 (plato7X)
SYMPTOMS
The Microsoft OLAP Manager is unable to browse a cube when the 'All Caption' property for the dimension matches the name of a level in the dimension.
The dimension and cube will process without any errors, but attempting to browse the cube data returns the following message:
Unable to browse the cube 'cubename'.
Unable to open connection.
Also if you attempt to refer to the all level from MDX, it fails with this
error:
Unable to open cellset
OLAP Server error: Formula error (Invalid bind request: in a <level> base object)
This problem occurs with both shared and private dimension.
WORKAROUND
By default OLAP Services chooses a different name for the 'All Caption.' When changed from the default, the user should make sure that the name selected for the 'All Caption' property does not match the name of any level in the dimension.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server OLAP Services version 7.0.
