OL2000: OLE Embedded Object Is Received As a Graphic (223914)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

This article was previously published under Q223914

SYMPTOMS

If you use Microsoft Word to send an e-mail message that contains an OLE object, the object is rendered as a graphic when sent. Recipients can only look at the object, and not double-click to open it in its native program.

CAUSE

Objects cannot be rendered in Plain Text or HTML format. To send an OLE object you must use the Rich Text Format.

RESOLUTION

Create your message using Rich Text Format, using either Word or Outlook as your default e-mail editor. On the Tools menu, click Options. Under the Mail Format tab, click to select Microsoft Outlook Rich Text in the Send in this message format list. Now when you compose a new e-mail message, you can insert objects that will retain their properties when sent.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
