Cannot Mark a Folder Executable on Netscape Servers (223792)
The information in this article applies to:
- FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions from Microsoft
This article was previously published under Q223792 SYMPTOMS
When using the FrontPage client or the FrontPage Server Extensions
Administrator to set a folder executable on a FrontPage Web that resides
on a Netscape Server, you receive the following error message:
Server error: Cannot mark a folder executable on this server.
CAUSE
FrontPage has no reliable way of setting a folder executable on a Netscape
Server. For this reason, the error listed in the "Symptoms" section is
displayed when you attempt to use the FrontPage client or the FrontPage
Server Administrator to set a folder executable on a Netscape Server.
RESOLUTION
The resolution is to use the Netscape Server Administration to set the
folder executable. The steps for doing this for Netscape Enterprise Server
3.5.1 are listed below:
- On the Server, click Start, point to Programs,
point to Netscape Suitespot, and click
Administration.
- In the Netscape Server Administration, click the button for the
server you are attempting to set a folder executable.
- From the menu, click Programs.
- From the Programs listing in the left frame, make sure
that CGI Directory is selected.
- In the center frame, you are presented with CGI Directory,
Add another CGI Directory.
- For URL prefix, append the folder you want to set as
executable as a URL. For example, if the folder is one level deep in the
Web and is called new_folder, then in the URL prefix text box, type
/new_folder.
- For the box CGI directory, type the physical location of
the folder. This information is case sensitive and it is important that
you make sure the exact case of the folders is specified correctly.
Following with the prior example with new_folder, in the CGI
directory text box, type
C:/Netscape/SuiteSpot/docs/new_folder. Notice all
of the capitalized letters; case is important.
- After typing the information for URL prefix and CGI
directory, click OK, and then click Save and
Apply.
- If you now open the Web in FrontPage, click the folder you set as
executable in the Netscape Server Administration, right-click, and click
Properties. You should see the Allow scripts or programs to be
run check box selected. If your folder does not appear in FrontPage
after you open the Web, return to step 7 to verify capitalization.
Although you have set the folder as executable, you will find that Authors
cannot upload executables into the folder by publishing with FrontPage.
