OL2000: Error In Calendar Function "Go To Date" (223553)

SYMPTOMS

If you use the "Go To Date" function of the Calendar to navigate to a date beyond the 12th of the month, you may receive the following error message:
You must specify a valid date. Check your entries in this dialog box to make sure they represent a valid date.

CAUSE

This problem occurs only for certain Date styles in Windows Regional Settings, where the short and long date styles have different Y/M/D orders. For example, the problem occurs if

Short date = MM-dd-yy
Long date = dd MMMM, yyyy

or if

Short date = YY-MM-dd
Long date = dd-MMMM-yyyy

RESOLUTION

This problem does not occur if you set your Windows Regional Settings, Date styles to the following:

Short date = dd-MM-yy
Long date = MMMM dd yyyy

or

Short date = YY-MM-dd
Long date = MMMM dd yyyy

To Change the Date Styles

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Regional Settings.
  3. Click the Date tab, and from the Short date style and Long date style lists, click to select the desired date styles.
  4. Click OK to save your changes.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
