OL2000: Error Message "The form you selected could not be displayed." (223488)

ERROR MESSAGE

When you attempt to open an Outlook form, you may receive one or all of the following error messages:

WHAT TO TRY

Insufficient Temporary Storage Space

To increase the amount of temporary space available to Outlook forms, follow these steps:

1. Start Outlook.
2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
3. On the Other tab, click Advanced Options.
4. In Advanced Options, click Custom Forms.
5. In the Maximum space on hard disk box, type a value in kilobytes that you want to make available to forms. Make sure you have sufficient free hard disk space for this purpose.
6. Click OK three times to accept the change and close all dialogs boxes.

Windows NT Folder Permissions for the \Winnt\Forms Folder

Change the permissions on the \Winnt\Forms folder to include Change Permissions for all users who will be using Outlook on the Windows NT computer.

You can also change the permissions, compose the form (this will cause the file to be copied locally), and then reset the permissions.

NOTE: It is not recommended that you restrict access to the forms folder because you may receive the above error message again. Back to Top

Electronic Forms Designer Runtime

The "Electronic Forms Designer Runtime", installs the Vb40016.dll file. This file provides access to the Organizational forms used with Outlook. To install the Electronic Forms Designer Runtime, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
3. Click to select Microsoft Office 2000 and then click Add/Remove.
4. Click Add Or Remove Features.
5. Click the plus sign (+) next to Microsoft Outlook for Windows.
6. Click the arrow next to Electronic Forms Designer Runtime and then click Run from My Computer.
7. Click Update Now and finish the installation.
