ERROR MESSAGE
When you use Outlook, you receive an error message similar to the following:
Operation failed.
NOTE: Microsoft Office 2000 has built-in functionality that allows you to get more information about difficult-to-troubleshoot alerts or error messages. If you want to enable this functionality for this and other error messages in Microsoft Office 2000, please download the Microsoft Office 2000 Customizable Alerts file from the Microsoft Office Update Web site at the following address:
NOTE: If you reached this article by clicking the
Web Info button in an error message, you already have Customizable Alerts enabled.
THINGS TO TRY
Mailbox Deleted from Exchange Server
Correct the e-mail address of the problem contact, or use the address book
to send the message.
When you add a contact that is also in the Global Address Book, Outlook
resolves the e-mail address to an Exchange Server address. If you
remove the mailbox from the Exchange Server, the address in the
Contact list is not updated.
Starting Outlook After Selecting the IMO Mode
The error message may occur because there is insufficient disk space to
complete the first-run portion of Setup. Free some disk space and then
restart Outlook.
After Removing the Category from a Single Item in Filtered View
Change the focus to another folder and then back to the folder with the
problem view. To change the focus, click another folder, either on the
Outlook Bar or in the Folder List, and then click the original problem
folder. You will not see any items in the original folder, since no items
meet the filter criteria for the current view.
To reset the view, on the
View menu, point to
Current View, click
Customize
Current View, click
Filter, click
Clear All, and then click
OK and
OK.
Attempting to Empty the Deleted Items Folder
Running the Inbox Repair tool may or may not remedy the problem even
though it may find errors and report that they have been fixed.
Another method is to create a new personal folders file, copy
the items from the old personal folder, except for the Deleted Items
folder, and then remove the old personal folders from the e-mail
profile.
For additional information about replacing the personal folders file,
please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Failed Due To a Registry...
Adding a Mail Message to the Junk E-mail List
The
From field of the message is blank. Mail from this sender cannot be
added to the Junk Senders list.
Someone with Permissions to Your Calendar Tries to Print with the Daily Style
The Daily style includes a default option to include TaskPad information,
and the person printing does not have permissions to your Task folder.
If you do not need to include the TaskPad information when printing the
Daily Style, click to clear that option. If you need to include the TaskPad
information, give the person trying to print at least Reviewer permissions
to your Task folder.
This error may have the additional text:
Either access was denied or one or more of the items did not exist.
and may also be accompanied by the following error:
The owner of the calendar has not given you permission to print
his or her task list. You should either ask the owner for Read
permission on his or her Tasks folder or you can uncheck the Task Pad option in the File
Page Setup dialog.
Addressing a New Message by Selecting a Large Group of Contacts
Create the new message first and then select the addresses you want from
the Outlook Address Book. This method will allow you to use a large number
of addresses in the same e-mail
message.
Replies Sent to a Contacts Distribution List
Address the replies to the individual addresses or create a server distribution list if the recipients are in the Global address book.
