DNS Domain Setting Unchanged After Promotion to Domain Controller (223347)

SUMMARY

After upgrading a member server to a domain controller (DC) in a new domain, the original DNS zone set on the computer is unchanged and must be reset manually in the DNS properties for the adapter.

For example, with the following two computers:
  • One with Windows 2000 installed as a domain controller running DNS.
  • The second computer is brought up as a member server in the DC's domain
Both computers are using static IP addresses.

Upgrading the member server to a DC in a new domain shows that the original DNS zone set on the computer was not changed after the upgrade. The DNS zone name must be reset manually in the DNS properties for the adapter.
