The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Access 2000

This article was previously published under Q223235
Moderate: Requires basic macro, coding, and interoperability skills.

This article applies to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb) and to a Microsoft Access project (.adp).

SYMPTOMS

After you open many code windows, the Visual Basic Editor reports the error
Out of memory
and you cannot open the Visual Basic Editor.

CAUSE

You have exceeded the system resources.

RESOLUTION

To prevent this problem, close the code window when you finish making changes.

If this problem has already occurred, import all of the objects to a new database. After you import all of the objects to the new database, you can open the Visual Basic Editor in the new database.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Access 2000.

MORE INFORMATION

The problem is based on a combination of the project size, the number of code windows that you have opened in the Visual Basic Editor, and the availability of system resources. After you have exceeded the system resources, however, you can no longer open the Visual Basic Editor in this project. Therefore, you must move all of the objects to a new database project.
