When you send a fax in Outlook using Symantec Fax Starter Edition, you may receive the following error message:
Symantec Fax Starter Edition Port Starter
Error return code from CreateNamePipe=231
When you click OK, the first error is followed by a blank error message dialog box with the following title:
The Fax Receiver failed to start.
CAUSE
This problem can occur when Microsoft Office is installed with a path name over 80 characters long. Installing Office programs to run from a network server may produce a long path name. If you install Office to run all programs from the server, but run Outlook from your computer, you can still encounter this problem.
RESOLUTION
Install Office to a location with a shorter path name.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATION
Symantec Fax Starter Edition is not supported in a run from network configuration. If you want to use Symantec Fax Starter Edition, you must install it on your computer rather than attempt to use it from a server.
